Before Visiting the Landfill
The Cedar City landfill accepts all wastes except hazardous wastes such as batteries, pesticides, and oil, or liquid wastes such as paint and oil.
The Parowan landfill does not accept business or commercial waste except construction and yard waste.
Solid Waste GuidelinesIron County residential customers may dispose of up to 500 lbs per month of items such as mattresses and couches at the county landfill at no charge.
Unincorporated Iron County residents whose pickup day falls on a holiday should place their can out the following business day unless otherwise listed on the holiday schedule below.

Up to 12 non-commercial tires per resident. Tires with rims and tires over 24.5″ are not accepted. No business tires accepted.
A two-week notice is required for all asbestos-related material. Fees are per ton using Iron County State Certified Scales.

Iron County recycles metal and green waste, including trees, trimmings, Christmas trees, and bushes.
Ground green waste is sold for $35 per loader bucket or $35 per ton and is loaded by landfill staff.

Residents of Iron County can dispose of reasonable amounts of household residential waste and yard debris from their own residence at no charge, such as a pickup or pickup with a small trailer.
Anything beyond household or yard debris, or material delivered in a commercial vehicle, will be charged according to the fees below. The landfill uses a tonnage-based system and provides a copy of all weigh tickets as customers cross the scales.

Double fee applies for the applicable waste type or disposal area.
Class IV-b landfills may accept construction wastes (including packaging, empty paint cans/caulking/sealers with ≤10% product), demolition wastes (furnaces, pipes, ducting, water heaters; remove furniture/other non-structural items), untreated wood (including pallets), crates, asphalt from roads and surfaces.
Prohibited from Class IV-b Landfills
Household waste, contaminated soils, friable asbestos, tanks, railroad ties, cardboard not from construction or demolition, furniture, metal not from construction or demolition, electronics, treated lumber, tires, and dead animals are prohibited.
Business name and container location must be disclosed to the scale attendant during weighing and ticket generation. Prohibited waste placed in the wrong area must be reloaded and removed to the appropriate disposal area by the delivering vehicle.
Loads containing hazardous substances are not accepted. The entire load will be rejected, reloaded, and DEQ notified.
2026 Schedule
The landfill will be closed and there will be no pickup on the dates listed below. If your regular scheduled day falls on a holiday, review the adjusted pickup day.
Please have your trash can at the street by 7:00 AM on your pickup day.
