Delinquent accounts

  • Accounts delinquent on the first day of the billing cycle are issued a $5 late fee.
  • Accounts delinquent from 3rd & 4th Quarter (previous year) and/or 1st & 2nd Quarter (current year) will be attached to Property Taxes on Sept 15, with an additional $25.00 attachment fee.

General information

Attention

  • All loads must be covered and secured.
  • Propane/oxygen tanks: Tanks must have the valve removed before entering the landfill.
  • Unincorporated Iron County residents: If your pickup day falls on a holiday, place your can out the following business day.
  • Free to residential customers (up to 500 lbs/month) to dispose of mattresses, couches, etc. at the county landfill. Fines apply for illegal dumping.

All asbestos loads need to be scheduled through Iron County Landfill prior to disposal.

What type of waste is accepted?

Cedar landfill accepts all wastes except hazardous wastes (batteries, pesticides, oil, etc.) or liquid wastes (paint, oil, etc.).

Parowan landfill does not accept business/commercial waste except construction and yard waste.

Refrigerators or freezers: Any appliance/equipment that has ever contained Freon is accepted for $10 per unit (regardless of current status).

Tires: Up to 12 non-commercial tires per resident for $4.00 each. Tires with rims and tires over 24.5″ are not accepted. No business tires accepted.

All fees are per ton using the Iron County State Certified Scales. A two-week notice is required for all asbestos-related material.

Recycling

We recycle metal and green-waste (trees/trimmings, Christmas trees, bushes).

Mulch

Ground green waste is sold for $35.00 per loader bucket or $35 per ton and is loaded by landfill staff.

Fees & payments

Residents of Iron County can dispose of reasonable amounts of household residential waste and yard debris from their own residence at no charge (e.g., pickup or pickup + small trailer). Anything beyond household/yard debris, or delivered in a commercial vehicle, will be charged per the fees below.

The landfill uses a tonnage-based system. A copy of all weigh tickets is provided as customers cross the scales.

Out of county waste (Double fee for waste type/disposal area.)

Allowed in Class IV-b landfills: construction wastes (including packaging, empty paint cans/caulking/sealers with ≤10% product), demolition wastes (furnaces, pipes, ducting, water heaters; remove furniture/other non-structural items), untreated wood (including pallets), crates, asphalt from roads and surfaces.

Prohibited from Class IV-b landfills

Household Waste, Contaminated Soils, Friable Asbestos, Tanks, Railroad Ties, Cardboard not from construction/demolition, Furniture, Metal not from construction/demolition, Electronics, Treated Lumber, Tires, Dead Animals

Business name and container location must be disclosed to the scale attendant during weighing/ticket generation. Prohibited waste found in the wrong area must be reloaded and removed to the appropriate disposal area by the delivering vehicle.

Loads containing hazardous substances are not accepted. The entire load will be rejected, reloaded, and DEQ notified.

Holiday trash pickup — 2026

The landfill will be closed and there will be no pickup on these dates.
