Fees

Picnic: Groups up to 50 (limited parking) = $30.00 (fees non-refundable)

No refunds will be granted for any reason, including conditions outside of our control (inclement weather, flooding, or fire restrictions). No water or power are present. While some amenities are provided on site, it is the sole responsibility of the signed parties to provide cleaning/hand-washing supplies, drinking water, power source, extra tables/shade coverings, seating, etc. Limited parking at 5 Mile Picnic Area.

Rules & Regulations

5 Mile Picnic Area is a public area maintained by Iron County for the benefit of residents and their friends. Certain rules must be followed for the benefit of the entire public:

  • 5 Mile area is closed after dark.
  • No camping is allowed at 5 Mile Picnic Area.
  • Use of firearms or fireworks in county parks is strictly prohibited and subject to prosecution.
  • No smoking or vaping.
  • No sale of beverages, goods, foods, or other business/commercial transactions without prior approval.
  • Consumption of alcohol in county parks requires a permit from Iron County Parks & Recreation. Alcohol must be contained and not in open reach areas. All Utah liquor laws must be observed.
  • Fires are only permitted in designated fire pits. Fires must be doused before leaving. Fire restrictions may be in effect and must be followed.
  • Trees may not be cut for firewood. Bring your own or pick up dead wood. No pallet burning allowed.
  • Leave no trace: all trash must be carried out or deposited in containers provided. Please sweep out pavilion.
  • Any destruction of public property or littering is a criminal offense. Report vandalism to the Iron County Sheriff's Office at (435) 867-7550.
  • Iron County is not responsible for damages to personal property brought to 5 Mile Picnic Area. Remove all personal property upon completion.
  • Please have a copy of your approved reservation with you on site.
  • Please respect other groups enjoying the park.
  • Please do not feed or disturb wildlife.

Reservation Guidelines for the 5-Mile Picnic Area

  1. Amenities include:

    • Two group day-use areas (advance reservation required):
      • Picnic Site: 5 picnic tables, 2 serving tables, large charcoal grill, and fire pit
      • Historical Pavilion: 3 picnic tables and fire pit with benches
    • One ADA-compliant picnic site: picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire pit with cooking grate
    • Ten first-come, first-serve sites: picnic table, charcoal grill, and fire pit with cooking grate
    • One double vault toilet and trash cans
    • No electricity or water available
  2. As of January 1, 2026, non-refundable fees for group day-use sites are:

    • Maximum of 50 people per reservation (limited parking)
    • Groups of 51+ require a Special Event Permit with fees and approval from the Parks & Recreation Director.
    • Picnic Site: $30 per day
    • Historic Pavilion Site: $40 per day
    • Students K-12: Free (education/training purposes only)
  3. No refunds upon cancellation. Reservation dates may be changed upon request within the current calendar year.

  4. The reservation season runs from May 1 (weather permitting) through September 30. Off-season requests must be coordinated with the Parks & Recreation Director.

  5. Reservation requests are accepted for the current calendar year only.

  6. No reservation applications will be accepted until the first working day of the calendar year.

    Reservation calendars and ordinances are available on the Iron County website under Departments → Community → Parks & Recreation.

  7. A completed reservation request form and applicable fees must be submitted in person to:

    Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM

    Reservations are confirmed only upon receipt of payment.

  8. Reservation applications and alcohol permit forms may be submitted digitally through the Iron County website. Digital submissions receive an email response within two business days. Payment must be made in person or by phone.

  9. A temporary two-week hold may be placed on a requested date. If not confirmed, the date may be released.

  10. Special events require a permit and additional documentation. Fees may apply up to $500. Contact the Parks & Recreation Director well in advance.

I, the undersigned applicant under penalties or perjury, declare that I have examined and completed the above application, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, said application is a true, correct, and complete assessment of the intended use of the park. I agree to the rules and regulations. I also agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Iron County and/or its agencies and representatives against and from any and all demands, claims, liabilities of every nature whatsoever, including but not limited to, damages to property, or injuries or death of persons arising directly or indirectly from the use and occupancy of the recreation area.
