The Assessor’s Office is responsible for classifying all property in the county; in cooperation with the Iron County Recorder’s Office, associating ownership with that property; establishing taxable value for all property subject to taxation; and compiling reports used by the Auditor to calculate tax rates and by the Treasurer for collections.

Real Property — Residential, commercial buildings, agricultural, and vacant land.

Personal Property — Business equipment (owned or leased) such as furniture, shelves, fixtures, supplies, etc.

Motor Vehicles

In addition to property classification, the Iron County Assessor is your local motor vehicles office. We issue title and registration for Utah vehicles, including passenger vehicles, trucks, trailers, motorcycles, motor homes, off-highway vehicles, boats, and snowmobiles. We have two motor vehicle locations—Parowan and Cedar City. Learn more at dmv.utah.gov.

What is Personal Property?

Utah Code Title 59 requires the taxation of property for funding local government and Utah schools. Property tax applies to real and personal property. Business personal property must be reported to the county assessor where the property has situs using the Personal Property Signed Statement. Personal property is taxed based on its taxable value as of January 1 each year. The Utah State Tax Commission publishes personal property classification schedules used by all county assessors in Utah.
